John Velasquez involved in fatal car crash with 69-year-old woman

According to a recent article from the Merced Sun-Star, a 69-year-old woman was killed on Saturday night after being hit by a car on Parsons Avenue near Girard Avenue in Merced.

As mentioned in the article, the accident occurred on Saturday night when Merced Police Department officers responded to a pedestrian-car collision at about 8:45 p.m. on Parsons Avenue.

John Velasquez, 30, was driving north in a Toyota Highlander before he hit a woman who was walking across the road, according to the police report.

The woman was struck and after paramedics transported the victim to Mercy Medical Center where she later died.  Her name is being withheld from the report, pending the notification of next-of-kin, said the article.

It is unknown from the report whether the accident was caused by alcohol or drugs, although the collision remains under investigation by police.
