High school football player is killed in a crash on his way home from banquet

Teenager William Burton was killed when he was involved in a deadly car crash on South Grade Road east of Via Vejas Oeste in Alpine on Monday, according to a recent article from CBS 8 News.

As mentioned in the article, the accident occurred on Monday at about 8:25 p.m. on South Grade Road just outside a gated neighborhood.

Burton was headed home from a team banquet for his Granite Hills High School football team when he was involved in a fatal car collision.  Allegedly, the Jeep crashed into an incoming Lexus SUV, when the 18-year-old driver in the Jeep lost control of his vehicle.

The 17-year-old was riding with his teammates, identified as Kieran Blankenship and Jake Young.  Although Blankenship and Young were wearing their seatbelts, they sustained minor to moderate injuries.  Burton however, was riding unrestrained and was thrown from the Jeep and died.

Additionally, authorities arrived at the scene and transported the two survivors to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, meanwhile Burton died at the scene.  The driver of the Lexus as well as his passenger, a 13-year-old girl were treated for minor injuries on scene.  Their names were also withheld from the report.

Reportedly, investigators did not suspect alcohol or drugs to be a factor in the traffic accident.

Currently, the traffic collision is being investigated by the authorities, and further information will be relayed at a later time.
