Man killed in roadway, driver immediately flees the scene after collision

According to a local news article, on Tuesday, March 6th 2018, at about 8:30 p.m. a 56-year-old pedestrian named Victor Ruiz was killed after a hit-and-run car accident that took place west of Tulare on CA-137 near Road 56 in the city of Tulare.

As mentioned in the article, the hit and run crash occurred when a driver headed west crashed into a man who was in the roadway.  California Highway Patrol stated that there were no reports, no witnesses, and that there were no real leads into the incident.

According to authorities, Ruiz crashed his own vehicle prior to the hit-and-run collision, and was struck when he decided to get out of his vehicle to cross the road.  “That’s when he was hit and killed,” said CHP Officer Steve Beal.

Additionally, it was mentioned that other vehicles also may have hit Ruiz in the road.

Currently, this incident is undergoing review by authorities as they work to determine the exact cause and liable party of the collision.  Further details will be available at a later time once officials conclude their investigation.
