Body of victim in hit-and-run crash found near Old Town

According to NBC San Diego, a 21-year-old Menifee man was killed in a hit-and-run car crash that took place on the Interstate 5 Freeway near Old Town Avenue early Saturday in San Diego, CA.

Authorities responded to the car crash and identified the hit-and-run victim as a 21-year-old Menifee resident.  His name was withheld from the report, pending the notification of next-of-kin.

Moreover, the accident occurred at about 3:00 a.m. when CHP officers received reports of a body in the freeway.  Upon arrival, authorities discovered a license plate that they suspect belongs to a 2004 Honda Accord, possibly the vehicle that hit the victim.

A short time later, authorities found an abandoned vehicle at a gas station on Pacific Highway.  According to the article, officers believe the driver exited the freeway and dumped the vehicle at the gas station.  Subsequently, the car was impounded as evidence, although no arrests were made in the case yet.

The 21-year-old victim was determined to have been attempting to cross the freeway on foot before being struck in the hit-and-run collision.

Currently, this incident is under review in an ongoing investigation by the authorities, and further details will be reviewed and released to the public as it is determined.
