Plane crash lands in a dirt lot in Santee

A plane crash landed, killing two people and one dog, near Prospect Avenue outside of Gillespie Field in Santee at approximately 6:56 AM on Tuesday, according to ABC 10News.

According to Santee Fire officials, the pilot took off from Gillespie Field at a currently unknown time. The pilot then noticed a mechanical issue and tried to turn around and land safely but could not safely do so, according to the article.

Officials confirmed that two currently unidentified persons have died in the crash. Two dogs were injured in the crash, one later died at a hospital.

Witnesses report that the weather conditions were foggy at the time of the crash, according to officials. Also, witnesses reported that the plane was completely destroyed in the crash.

The investigation into this accident is still ongoing. Further details will be released as it becomes available to the public.
