R22 Beta helicopter crashes, injuring two people on Sunday

According to an article from the Santa Barbara Independent, there was an aviation accident in which two people were injured after a helicopter crashed at Santa Barbara Airport on Sunday.

The accident occurred at about 9:30 a.m.when an R22 Beta helicopter crashed just west of Runway 15.  The pilot as well as the passenger suffered minor to moderate injuries, although the details of those injuries were not mentioned.

According to the article, emergency rescue crews from the city and county fire departments responded to the plane accident to assist the injured parties.

It was indicated in the article that the helicopter was an R22 Beta that was leased by a Santa Barbara-based helicopter tour and flight school company identified as Nanco Helicopters LLC.

It was unclear from reports whether the helicopter was being used for tour or training purposes at the time of the accident, and Nanco did not comment on the incident, according to the news.

Currently, the incident remains under investigation and no further information was released.
