Fatal big rig truck accident results in two victims killed
According to a recent press release from the Sacramento Bee, there was a truck accident in which two men were killed on the Interstate 5 Freeway just north of Laguna Boulevard.
The accident was reported at about 5:30 a.m. in the morning on Wednesday, as mentioned in the article.
Reportedly, the driver of a cargo truck headed northbound on the 5 Freeway when the vehicle collided with a big rig truck just north of Laguna Boulevard.
The big-rig was rear-ended due to slowing down and stopping for an earlier crash that happened in the road, cited police officers. The cargo truck then crashed into the rear of the big-rig.
Additionally, authorities were able to identify two men who were killed at the scene as a 31-year-old man from Hollister as well as a 21-year-old man from Gilroy in the cargo truck.
The driver of the big rig survived the accident and remained at the scene to cooperate with the following investigation, sources said.
Furthermore, upon speaking with the driver, CHP Sgt. Aaron Rohner cited that the driver did not realize how big the impact was and did not realize he was dragging another vehicle under his trailer.
The NB Interstate 5 lanes remained backed up during the morning commute as roadway crews cleared the debris. All lanes were reportedly opened again at about 8:15 a.m., said CHP.
This Elk Grove freeway big rig truck accident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine what exactly contributed to the crash, and who remains liable.
