Authorities currently storing Saturn as evidence in pending investigation

According to a recent article from KSBY, there was a car accident in which two people were killed on Brown Road off the Highway 1 in Santa Maria on Monday evening.

Reportedly, the crash occurred shortly before 7:00 p.m. just east of Highway 1.

California Highway Patrol reported that a Saturn sedan was traveling east on Brown Road and had ran a stop sign unexpectedly, said the article.  The sedan then struck a legally parked semi-truck.

As a result, both male occupants of the sedan were killed upon impact, said the source.  When authorities arrived, they pulled their bodies out of the vehicle which was stuck underneath the tractor-trailer.

Additionally, officers cited that the semi-truck driver was not injured at the time, although he was shaken up.  Furthermore, it is believed that the vehicle may have become airborne after running the stop sign at Highway 1, since the road is raised in that location, said authorities.

KSBY News reports that the Saturn is currently being stored as evidence in the pending investigation to determine if there was anything wrong with the vehicle mechanically.

Currently, this investigation is being handled by the California Highway Patrol and further information will be reported once the investigation is over.  Drugs or alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing factor in the crash, although the results will come later from the coroner’s office.
