Fatal truck collision occurs after mechanical failure

According to recent news, there was a truck accident in which a driver was killed last Friday afternoon on Highway 99 near Kiernan Avenue in Salida.

The accident occurred at about 12:25 p.m. in the northbound lanes of State Route 99.

As mentioned in the report, the 66-year-old truck driver had to pull over to the shoulder after experiencing what authorities are calling a mechanical failure.

Reportedly, as he exited his cab and stood on the side of his truck, a 62-year-old driver lost control of his 2000 Chevrolet vehicle and struck the truck driver.

Authorities responded to the crash and transported the victim to Modesto’s Doctors Medical Center, although he later died.

The victim’s name was not released to the public pending the notification of family and next-of-kin.

Additionally, the 62-year-old driver of the Chevrolet was identified as Donald Johnson of Visalia.  Reports did not indicate whether he was injured, although he did remain at the scene after the crash.

Currently, authorities determined that neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the crash, although the crash remains under active investigation.  Further details will be reported at a later time.
