Three killed and one injured in a rollover crash in North County near Lake Hodges

According to 10news.com, a rollover crash on Thursday afternoon on Interstate 15 in Rancho Bernardo resulted in three killed and one injured.

Reportedly, the California Highway Patrol responded to a crash on the southbound Interstate 15 around 1:15 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities stated a black GMC Envoy rolled over on Interstate 15, crashing into a freeway guardrail and dropping 120 feet down an embankment.

Additionally, officials stated four people were in the vehicle when the rollover occurred. Out of the four, two were pronounced dead at the scene and the other two were transported to Palomar Hospital.

One of those transported with major injuries was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The three dead victims were identified as a 28-year-old Hispanic male from San Diego, a male Hispanic in his 20s, and a female believed to be also in her 20s.

The fourth person who was hospitalized with major injuries was identified as a 22-year-old male from San Juan Bautista, Mexico, sources said.

Authorities report that the Border Patrol officers were running licence plates in the area and identified an SUV that was associated to a possible armed and dangerous murder suspect, who was also involved with human smuggling.

The SUV continued on, forcing a pursuit, which ended in a rollover crash.

Officials said that no one in the vehicle was wearing seat belts when the rollover occurred and that the result could have had a different outcome if they were wearing it.

The name of the victims were not mentioned in the article, pending the notification of next-of-kin.

It is unclear if alcohol, drugs or speeding were involved in the factor of the collision but the authorities have not ruled them out.

This collision remains under investigation by the CHP and U.S. Customs and Border Protection and further details will be updated as they are available.
