LAPD officer Edgar Verduzco arrested following suspected DUI crash

According to a recent article from KTLA, there was a fatal car accident on Tuesday night when three victims were killed as a result of an off-duty LAPD officer driving while under the influence on the 605 Freeway in Whittier.

As mentioned in the article, the accident occurred at about 10:15 p.m., when California Highway Patrol responded to the incident.

Three occupants inside a 2014 Nissan were killed when Edgar Verduzco, 26, crashed his 2016 Chevy Camaro “at a high rate of speed” into the rear-end of two vehicles, the 2014 Nissan and a 2010 Scion, according to the article.

The impact occurred south of Saragosa Street, causing the Nissan vehicle to catch fire and become covered in flames, according to the news.  They were pronounced dead shortly after once the Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics arrived at the scene.

Furthermore, authorities reported that their names were withheld, pending the notification of next-of-kin, although it was mentioned that the victims were a teen boy and his parents from Riverside.

Additionally, the article states that the driver of the Scion, a 31-year-old woman, also suffered minor injuries in the traffic accident, although it was not made clear whether she was transported to a hospital.

California Highway Patrol arrested Edgar Verduzco, who sustained a broken nose in the accident.  According to CHP, Verduzco was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.  Inmate records showed that he is being held on $100,000 bail.

The article also indicates that Verduzco is an officer of the Los Angeles Police Department, and was off-duty at the time of the collision.

Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to gather further evidence in the car accident.

Further details will be reported at a later time once the investigation has concluded.
