One dead and one injured in a car crash at Highway 120 near Buck Meadows in Groveland
According to uniondemocrat.com, on Thursday afternoon a car crash killed a Oakhurst man and injured a woman on Highway 120 near Buck Meadows in Groveland.
Authorities reported that a 1999 Chevy 1500 pickup was traveling eastbound on Highway 120 near the intersection with Smith Station Road and the Rim of the World at a speed of 55 mph.
The pickup truck suddenly lost control and steered towards the right side of the road onto the dirt shoulder and collided with three signs.
The car then swerved to the left, almost traveling into the opposite lane, but turned right again where it sideswiped a tree, the source said.
The collision resulted in the vehicle tumbling down an embankment where it came to a rest, according to the source.
The passenger of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The dead victim was identified to be an 82-year-old. The name of the dead passenger has not been released pending notification of his family.
The injured driver was identified as Artha Dubois, 29, of Oakhurst.
The name of the passenger was not mentioned in the article, pending the notification of next-of-kin.
It is unclear if alcohol, drugs or speeding were involved in the factor of the collision but the authorities have not ruled them out.
