Wrong way driver killed on I-5 Freeway near Sour Grass Road in Corning
According to krcrtv.com, on Thursday morning, a truck accident occurred on the 5 Freeway near Sour Grass Road in Corning, resulting in one dead.
The California Highway Patrol said around 3:15 a.m., a 2000 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on the northbound I-5 south of Liberal Avenue and crashed into a semi-truck.
Officials report that the driver of the northbound semi-truck, identified as John Wahl, 64, of Redding, was driving northbound trying to pass a semi tractor-trailer on a northbound lane when the Honda Civic swerved into it causing the crash.
The California Highway Patrol officials state the driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.
The name of the victim was not mentioned in the article, pending the notification of next-of-kin.
Reportedly, both vehicle involved in the collision sustained major injuries.
Additionally 50 gallons of fuel spilled out of the semi-truck, forcing lane closure on the northbound for several hours.
It is believed alcohol may have been involved in the car collision.
