One dead and two injured in a fatal car crash on southbound 101 freeway in San Jose

According to ABC 7, a car crash occurred Sunday morning on the southbound 101 Highway in San Jose, resulting in one confirmed death.

As mentioned in the article, the authorities responded to a report of a collision around 5:48 a.m. near the PG&E transmission substation at 150 Metcalf Road.

The report detailed a car crash involving a wrong-way driver on southbound Highway 101 near Metcalf Road. A driver rode their white Nissan Altima in a wrong direction on the southbound 101 Highway.

The driver made a U-turn on the southbound Highway 101 when the mistake was realized but was hit by a incoming Honda Accord causing major injuries to both drivers.

Following the first crash, the female driver of the accord was assisted out of the car while the Altima driver remained in the car.

Moments later, a Toyota Corolla traveling on the southbound Highway 101 crashing into the Altima, igniting a fire.

The name of the victim was not mentioned in the article, pending the notification of next-of-kin.

It is unclear if alcohol, drugs or speeding were involved in the factor of the collision but the authorities have not ruled them out.
