The driver of a motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene after allegedly triggering a multi-vehicle crash

A motorcyclist was killed Monday morning after allegedly crashing into the rear end of a vehicle and causing a multi-car crash on the Bayshore Freeway near the Whipple Avenue exit in Redwood City, according to the NBC Bay Area News.

According to sources, the male motorcyclist was splitting lanes and driving in excess speeds when he hit one vehicle and caused a crash involving as many as six vehicles. California Highway Patrol suggested that alcohol and/or drugs may have been involved in the collision.

The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released. It is also unknown if there were injuries in the other vehicles involved in the crash.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing. Further details will be released to the public as they become available.
