According to an article from Fox40.com, there was a major head-on collision that took place on Placerville Drive last Tuesday afternoon in which a police pursuit suspect crashed into the middle school counselor

As reported in the article, the accident took place just before 12:30 p.m.  leaving the El Dorado Hills middle school counselor Myrna Harp in the intensive car unit, fighting for her life.

21-year-old Justin Jefford, a Placerville resident, had kidnapped his ex-girlfriend in her mom’s stolen Volkswagen Beetle right before the crash from a nearby thrift shop, the article mentioned.

Additionally, Jefford stopped his vehicle sometime before the fatal collision and allowed the kidnapped woman to run free.  In the mean time, police found the Volkswagen that was reported stolen, and the chase ensued.

Jefford, driving westbound on Green Valley Road in the stolen vehicle, was chased by police officers, before he crossed into the opposite lanes on the road and struck a Buick LeSabre head-on, fatally injuring Harp.

Paramedics were able to arrive, according to the article, soon after and airlifted the injured victim to Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento, where she was treated for her broken leg bones and arms as well as a collapsed lung.  Moreover, the article reported that the 21-year-old Jefford also sustained major injuries and was hospitalized.

Sources stated that Jefford faces charges of kidnapping, vehicle theft, violation of probation, as well as felony evading a police officer.

Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to collect evidence for a case against Jefford.

Further details will be reported at a later time once the investigation has concluded.
