20-year-old Maya Thone of Pacifica was killed in a car accident involving driver Mukai Masayoshi
Maya Isabelle Thone was killed and Mukai Masayoshi was critically injured after their vehicle crashed on Highway 152 west of Flanagan Road in Dos Palos in Merced County, according to a local news article.
The accident occurred around 6:00 p.m. when a Nissan sedan crashed on Highway 152 between El Nido and Dos Palos, said California Highway Patrol.
Officers responded to the incident as well as paramedics who transported the injured driver to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of his injuries.
The 20-year-old woman was killed and pronounced dead at the scene, reported the news. Additionally, it was reported that drugs was a major factor in the collision, said CHP investigators.
Reports showed that the Nissan sedan in which Thone was an occupant traveled at a high rate of speed and lost control while trying to pass another vehicle on the road. As a result, the Nissan rolled over multiple times before landing on its roof.
Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause and liable party in the crash.
