Matthew Thibodeau killed in fatal car wreck in Santa Clarita

According to The Signal, Matthew Thibodeau was identified as the man who died after a fatal car accident on Golden Valley Road at Dorothy Street in Santa Clarita on Tuesday night.

As mentioned in the article, the victim died at the traffic intersection in Los Angeles County just before 10:51 p.m. when the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff received reports of a crash in the unincorporated area.

Upon arrival, according to the news article, fire rescue crews discovered several people trapped inside their vehicles, and special extrication units were required to free the trapped victims.

Additionally, it was reported by the California Highway Patrol that the driver of the white Honda Civic, identified as Matthew Thibodeau, was pronounced dead at the scene.

What initially occurred was that Thibodeau, traveling southbound on Golden Valley Road, was approaching Dorothy at a high rate of speed, said officials.  He made an immediate left turn against a red light and crossed directly into the path of a tan Toyota Sienna, and the two vehicles crashed head-on.

Additionally, the news article reported that the driver of the Toyota van as well as his three-year-old child sustained major injuries in the traffic accident and were as a result airlifted to Northridge Hospital.

One other victim, the right front passenger of the Honda Civic also sustained injuries in the car wreck and was transported via paramedics to Henry Mayo Hospital.

None of the injured victims were named in the news release.

Moreover, the CHP released a report determining that the deceased driver had not been wearing a seat belt at the time of the fatal car accident, and alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the collision, said officials.

Currently, this incident is under review in an ongoing investigation by the authorities, and further details will be reviewed and released to the public as it is determined.
