Driver flees scene after fatal traffic accident on I-5 Freeway in Elk Grove

A fatal hit-and-run collision took the life of a 68-year-old man and injured his two passengers on Sunday morning along the Interstate 5 Freeway in Elk Grove, according to a recent article from Fox 40.

The article reported that the accident occurred at about 4:38 a.m. Sunday when the driver of a Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class attempted to pass the victim’s Volvo V70 on the right and crashed into the victim.

When the Mercedes struck the back of the Volvo on the passenger side, the vehicle began rolling across the highway before the victim’s car flipped over the center median, landing on its roof.  Reported by the CHP, the driver of the Mercedes fled the scene of the accident.

As a result, Marcelino Castellano was killed in the traffic accident.  Officials also reported that Larocca and Ramirez, the two passengers inside the Volvo, were transported to Kaiser South Hospital for minor and major injuries.

Authorities were able to identify the owner of the Mercedes as Tenly Johnson, a black woman living in San Leandro.  Currently, authorities are searching for the owner of the Mercedes as well as the driver who caused the accident.

The fatal accident remains under investigation as police work to locate the driver and determine who is at fault for this fatal hit-and-run car accident.
