Hit-and-run driver released from custody following fatal collision

A man died in a crosswalk after being fatally injured in a hit-and-run car accident that took place along Airport Way near Hazelton Avenue in Stockton on Saturday, according to a local KCRA news article.

According to the news report, the fatal collision took place at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Police witnesses stated in the report that a silver SUV driving northbound along Airport Way struck a man in a crosswalk and subsequently fled the scene before authorities arrived.

The victim died as a result, reported the article.  Their identity was withheld publicly from the news article, pending the notification of family.

Additionally, the driver turned himself in afterwards, and was later released per The District Attorney’s office, according to the article.  No charges were filed at this time.

Currently, this incident is under review in an ongoing investigation by the authorities, and further details will be reviewed and released to the public as it is determined.
