Pair of big-rig truck accidents turn fatal in unincorporated Alameda County

According to a recent article from Eastbaytimes.com, there was a pair of semi-truck collisions that took place on Thursday, closing down traffic lanes for nearly 10 hours near Castro Valley, as well as leaving one driver dead near Eden Canyon Road on I-580.

As mentioned in the article, the accident was reported at about 4:10 a.m. when California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a major semi-truck traffic collision.

Sources stated that initially, there was one collision between a black sedan and a semi-truck, which affected the truck driver’s ability to see and steer the vehicle, causing the first big rig to come to rest in the middle of the roadway in traffic. According to CHP officers, a second big-rig then crashed into the stopped big rig truck.

As a result, the man driving the second big-rig truck was killed in the crash.  Authorities were able to identify the man as 62-year-old Maclovio Lopez, a resident of Roseville.

It was unclear from the report what caused the initial collision to happen between the black sedan and the truck, although a Sig-alert was issued at about 4:24 a.m. due to all westbound lanes being blocked.

Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause and liable party in the crash.

Further details will be reported at a later time once the investigation has concluded.
