One pedestrian killed in a car crash on Lake County Highway in Lakeport

According to pressdemocrat.com, on Wednesday morning around 3:30 a.m., a boy was killed in a car crash on the northbound lane of Highway 29 south of Highland Springs Road in Lakeport.

The Lake County Sherriff’s Office states that a car driven by Eugene John Odell Jr., 38, of Kelseyville, was traveling southbound on Highway 29 when it hit something south of Highland Springs Road.

Odell got out to check what he had hit and found a boy in the brush. Eugene quickly called the 911, stated the officials.

Reportedly, the Lake County sheriff’s detectives happened to be passing  by to go to training and attempted CPR on the victim but failed.

Investigators stated that they don’t know why the boy was out at the time of the day when nothing around the rural area was open.  Additionally, the boy was carrying a backpack and a cellphone but no identification.

As mentioned in the article, the authorities were able to get in contact with the boy’s father through his cell phone.

The boy was identified by the Lake County Sheriff’s office as Joseph Dominic Lacoy of Kelseyville.

A preliminary investigation indicated Eugene was driving at approximately 55 mph speed limit when the crash occurred. Additionally, there is no indication that alcohol and drugs are involved in the car collision, according to authorities.

This collision remains under investigation and further details will be updated as they are available.
