Driver arrested after injuring his passenger in a hit-and-run traffic accident in South Los Angeles
According to a press release from Onscene.tv, there was a traffic accident in Leimert Park which left a passenger critically injured after his driver struck a tow truck at the corner of Vernon and 9th avenues on Thursday night.
Reported in the article, the suspect driver, unnamed, was traveling westbound on Vernon Avenue at about 7:45 p.m. At the same time, there was a tow truck driver that was approaching 9th avenue, stated Officer Jenny Houser of the LAPD’s Media Relations Division.
Per the article, after the driver struck the tow truck, he immediately fled the scene on foot, abandoning the vehicle as well as the passenger inside, leaving the passenger critically injured as a result of the car crash, sources said.
The passenger sustained head trauma as a result and paramedics were required to take the passenger to a hospital nearby in critical, but stable condition. No one in the tow truck was injured, the article reported.
The driver was caught shortly after the car accident in Los Angeles and was taken into custody.
The driver’s vehicle was identified by police and witnesses as a Ford sedan, and it was completely smashed in on the passenger side, according to footage recorded by a witness from Onscene.tv.
It was not stated whether or not this crash was a result of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Currently, this major hit-and-run car accident is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, and further information will be reported at a later time once the investigation has concluded.
