Multiple collisions turn fatal as driver exits vehicle on freeway and is struck and killed in Rosemead
As reported, the accident occurred early Monday morning at about 5:44 a.m. when 69-year-old Gilbert Yan Ki Ng was struck after exiting his vehicle in the No. 4 lane following a prior traffic collision that occurred on the 10 Freeway near the Del Mar Avenue exit ramp.
California Highway Patrol authorities responded to the fatal collision and determined that the initial collision happened when a white 2015 BMW M4 lost control and crashed into about 40 feet of guard rail before ending up in the No. 4 lane. Ng reportedly struck the BMW with his 2015 Honda CR-V, which prompted the victim to exit his vehicle, said police.
That is when the victim was struck by a Lexus RX300 and died.
Additionally, the article indicates that the BMW driver, whose name was withheld, suffered lacerations to the left side of his face. Moreover, the driver of the Lexus, whose name was also withheld, complained of neck and back pain, CHP said.
The injured parties were transferred to County USC Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause and liable party in the crash.
Further details will be reported at a later time once the investigation has concluded.
