Vehicle collision involving big rig killed five people on the 10 Freeway in Rialto

According to a news article from the San Diego Union-Tribune, on Saturday, February 17th 2018, just before 1:00 p.m. five people lost their lives in a traffic accident involving a big rig on Interstate 10 in the city of Rialto.

Furthermore, authorities report that a concrete semitrailer registered to Western Concrete Pumping was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 when it swerved through the center divider, and crashed head-on with five other vehicles traveling westbound.  As a result of the collision several of the vehicles were overturned and charred as the collision immediately sparked a fire, as mentioned in the report.

In addition, all five people that died were declared dead at the scene of the collision, however authorities have not released any information of the victims at the moment.  The driver of the semitrailer suffered minor injuries and was not hospitalized, as cited in the article.

Currently, this incident is undergoing review by officials as they work to determine the exact cause of the accident, and further details will be available at a later time once the investigation has concluded.
