Big-rig truck crashes into concrete median and overpass after front left tire failure, killing driver

According to a recent article from the East Bay Times, Elder Flores Martel of Oakland was killed in a deadly big-rig truck accident after a tire failure on I-80 Freeway near University Avenue exit in Berkeley on Friday morning, November 24th.

On Friday morning, the accident occurred shortly before 9:00 a.m. when a big rig truck’s left front tire went flat, causing it to drift into the concrete barrier in the center median divider, according to authorities.

The tractor-trailer then struck the University Avenue overpass, ejecting the truck driver Martel out of his vehicle and onto the roadway.  Sources say that the driver may not have been wearing a seat belt, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Alameda County coroner’s bureau officials stated later on that the driver was identified as Elder Flores Martel, 35.

According to the report, there were no other vehicles involved in the truck accident, and there were no further victims injured in the accident.
