Fatal car crash leaves one dead, another injured

San Diego Police reported that a 91-year-old Doris Lucille Guffin perished after a fatal collision took place on Friday at Balboa Avenue and Mount Alifan Drive in Clairemont, according to NBC San Diego.

The accident occurred at about 11:15 a.m. at the intersection of Balboa Avenue and Mount Alifan Drive, said authorities.  The crash occurred near an AutoZone shop as well as an IHOP restaurant.

San Diego PD reported that the 91-year-old woman identified as Doris Guffin was headed southbound in a gray Toyota Camry when she collided with a 32-year-old woman that was driving eastbound on Balboa Avenue.

Subsequently, Guffin then crashed her vehicle into a pole.  As mentioned in the article, the Camry was “in pieces, with half of the car near the pole and the other half scattered across the sidewalk and in a patch of grass about 100 yards away.”

Police reported the woman in the Camry died at the scene.  Additionally, the other driver was transported to a local hospoital with minor injuries, including bruises and scratches.

At this point, the deceased woman’s identity has not been released, pending the notification of next-of-kin.  Furthermore, Balboa Avenue was shut down for several hours.

Currently, this incident is under review in an ongoing investigation by the authorities, and further details will be reviewed and released to the public as it is determined.
