Victim identified in apartment gas explosion in Indio

According to a recent article from KMIR, there was a man who was killed in a gas explosion in his Indio apartment home earlier this week.

As mentioned in the article, the accident occurred on August 9th at about 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon, in the 44000 block of King Street near Indio Bouelvard.

Firefighters responded to a report of a gas leak coming from the apartments after someone had reported a gas-like odor in the complex.

Sources said that an explosion happened suddenly, fatally injuring David Lee Ellis, 61, a resident of the Indio complex.  Ellis was transported via airlift to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, where he later died from his injuries.

Additionally, an Indio Police Officer also sustained moderate injuries.  Their identity was not disclosed, per the report.  He was treated at a local hospital and was later released.

Currently, there are no leads as to what caused the gas explosion in the apartment complex, although authorities are currently working to gather evidence to determine the exact cause.
