UC Berkeley’s top lawyer killed in hit-and-run collision

According to the Press Democrat, there was a recent hit-and-run accident in which a bicyclist was killed last Sunday morning near Guerneville on the shoulder of Highway 116.

Per the article, the 59-year-old widely respected lawyer for UC Berkeley was riding his bicycle on Highway 116 before he was struck by a driver who fled the scene immediately afterwards.

After authorities arrived, they were unable to locate the suspect in the hit-and-run collision, and Patti was pronounced dead.

CHP authorities continued to look for the hit-and-run suspect to no avail on Monday evening.  The only detail reported was that the driver had a black BMW.

Additionally, in the ongoing investigation, authorities identified Jonathan Ritter, 28, of Rio Nido and Monte Rio as a person of interest.  Although he is not currently a suspect, officers are seeking the person in order to ask if he was driving the vehicle or not.

Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause and liable party in the crash.

Further details will be reported at a later time once the investigation has concluded.
