Child remains on life support after pedestrian accident
There was an eleven-year-old girl who sustained major injuries and had to be hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in a busy Southwest Bakersfield intersection, according to Kern Golden Empire News.
As mentioned in the article, Bakersfield police responded on Sunday to an incident in which a pedestrian was struck around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Stockdale Highway and California Avenue.
Allegedly, the girl was crossing the street with a group of friends at the northwest corner of the intersection. According to witnesses, she was crossing the road against a red hand signal and consequently was struck by a vehicle going westbound on Stockdale Highway.
Reportedly, the driver of the vehicle stopped after the crash and Bakersfield police was able to perform field sobriety tests on the driver and passenger inside the vehicle.
Shortly after, the girl was transported to a nearby medical center for treatment, and it is indicated by the article that the victim will be transported for further treatment in a hospital in Madera.
As a result of the incident, the intersection was shut down for several hours Friday night although it was reopened on Saturday.
Currently, this incident is still under investigation and further details will be reported at a later given time.
