Authorities investigating fatal Monday bicycle accident
According to a Patch article, there was a fatal accident on Monday in which a bicyclist was killed after being hit by a car in Redondo Beach at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard at Felton Lane.
As mentioned in the report, the collision occurred at about 9:16 p.m. on Monday night when a bicyclist was traveling in Redondo Beach on Artesia Boulevard near Felton Lane.
A woman suddenly struck the cyclist, causing a collision, said sources.
Redondo Beach Police responded to the accident as well as paramedics, who arrived to transport the critically injured victim to a local hospital, according to the article. Unfortunately, the cyclist was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly afterwards.
The identity of the victim was withheld from article, pending the notification of next-of-kin.
Additionally, the unnamed woman who drove the car remained at the scene of the accident and was cooperating with officers, said authorities.
As stated by police, neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to be contributing factors in the bicycle accident.
Furthermore, Artesia Boulevard was shut down between Inglewood Avenue and Phelan Lane immediately afterwards for the investigation. The area was reopened at about 1:43 a.m. on Tuesday.
Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause and liable party in the crash.
