4-vehicle pileup on State Route 37 causes traffic to back up
According to a Patch article, Arthur Lloyd Deleray of Sonoma was identified as the man who was killed in a four-vehicle car accident on State Route 37 between the Atherton Avenue off-ramp and on-ramp in Novato on Thursday afternoon.
As mentioned in the article, the accident occurred at about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday when the driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck struck the right rear-end of the Lexus sedan that the victim Deleray was traveling in. Deleray was stopped at the back of a line of traffic in the fast lane of Highway 37 near Atherton Avenue, said CHP.
The driver of the Ford F-150 pickup tried to brake to avoid a collision but could not stop in time and struck the Lexus. Subsequently, the collision pushed the Lexus into the rear of the vehicles in front of it, causing a pileup.
Paramedics arrived at the scene but unfortunately Deleray died of his injuries at the scene of the accident, said the article. The driver of the Lexus also suffered major injuries and was transported by a CHP helicopter to a local trauma center, said CHP.
A passenger in the third vehicle involved also suffered minor injuries, the report shows. The driver of the Ford F-150 truck was treated by paramedics but was not transported to a local hospital, and the drivers of the third and fourth vehicle in front of the pileup were not transported to a hospital either.
