Victim killed in hit-and-run identified, hit-and-run driver arrested
Corundolus Toussaint, 38, was arrested under suspicion of hit-and-run in relation to a car crash that occurred on Saturday early morning on the Interstate 5 Freeway, about a mile away from Lindbergh Field, where he struck and killed 21-year-old UCSD student Andres Perkins, according to a local NBC San Diego article.
Andres Perkins, 21, was identified as the victim who was struck and killed in the hit-and-run collision. The report indicates the victim was a Menifee resident as well as a neuroscience major at UC San Diego. The young man had been trying to cross the freeway on foot when the driver struck him, although the article did not indicate why.
Additionally, authorities took Corundolus Toussaint, 38, into custody on Monday following the collision. Toussaint had struck the student on the freeway and fled the scene afterwards before being arrested by authorities. Investigators had found his blue Honda Accord abandoned at a nearby Shell gas station and impounded the vehicle as evidence. On Monday, Toussaint was identified as the suspect and was booked into San Diego County Jail on one count of felony hit-and-run causing injury or death, said CHP.
Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause and liable party in the crash.
Further details will be reported at a later time once the investigation has concluded.
