Honda Accord crossed into path of dump truck, causing fatal accident
A 53-year-old Sacramento resident was killed and a young child was injured on Friday afternoon after a car crashed into a dump truck on Hedge Avenue north of Florin Road in Sacramento County, reported the Sacramento Bee.
Per the news article, the accident happened at about 3:18 p.m. on Hedge Avenue just north of Florin Road.
California Highway Patrol officer Michael Bradley cited in the article that the 2004 Honda Accord, driven by the 53-year-old man, was traveling north on Hedge Avenue before he crossed into the path of the dump truck going southbound.
Furthermore, the Accord, traveling at about 40-50 mph, did not slow down before hitting the front of the truck, ignoring the truck horn, the source stated.
A passerby arrived and was able to break the left rear window to pull the child out of the vehicle before the authorities arrived.
Upon arrival of the authorities, the driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, said CHP.
Paramedics arrived and transported the young boy to UC Davis Medical Center with unknown injuries, the article mentions.
The driver of the dump truck, a 50-year-old Sacramento resident, was not injured. Reportedly, a dog was also injured in the car accident and was transported to Sacramento County Animal Control.
Currently, this crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol and further information will be reported at a later time.
