Orland resident pronounced dead at Enloe Medical Center shortly after bicycle collision
According to an article from the Chico Enterprise-Record, there was a recent accident where a bicyclist identified as John Sompanit, a 31-year-old Orland resident, was killed after being struck by a pickup truck on Cohasset Road near Thorntree Drive in north Chico last Friday.
As mentioned by the news, the 31-year-old bicyclist was identified as John Sompanit of Orland.
Sompanit was traveling along Cohasset Road near Thorntree Drive when he was suddenly struck by a northbound Dodge pickup at about 5:00 p.m. last Friday afternoon, said Chico police. According to the article, the victim’s direction of travel was not known.
Furthermore, after being struck, Sompanit became trapped underneath the pickup. Motorists that were passing by stopped by the accident and attempted to pull the victim out. Police stated that they performed CPR on the man before paramedics arrived.
Ambulance medics transported the severely wounded bicyclist to Enloe Medical Center where John Sompanit was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Currently, the name of the driver of the Dodge pickup truck has not been released. Cited by the article, police authorities at the scene did not suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash, although the Chico Police Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the crash.
