Six-vehicle pile-up traffic collision causes fatal injuries

A multi-vehicle accident occurred in North Sacramento last Friday night on the I-80 near Madison Avenue, leaving two people dead and others injured, according to a news article from ABC 10.

At approximately 9:00 p.m., officers arrived on scene on the Interstate 80 Freeway in the westbound lanes where a tow truck that was hauling a vehicle crashed into the rear-end of a stalled Hyundai with its taillights turned off before crashing into a passing Toyota.

When the authorities arrived, a Dodge Ram stopped in the No. 1 lane with hazard lights on in order to protect officers from incoming traffic, according to reports.

Shortly after, the driver of a van crashed into the Dodge Ram’s rear-end.  Moreover, the driver of a Chevy Camaro then struck the pickup truck, causing the sports vehicle to erupt in flames, said officials.

As a result, the female driver of the Hyundai as well as her passenger were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by rescue crews.  The female was identified as 62-year-old Bennie Ruth Harriel.  Additionally, the passenger’s identity has not yet been released, pending the notification of next-of-kin.

One other passenger in the Hyundai and the driver of the van were transported to a hospital after sustaining major injuries, reported the article.  Moreover, the driver of the Toyota vehicle also suffered injuries.

The vehicle fire was quickly extinguished when Sacramento Metro Fire crews arrived at the scene.

Currently, this crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause and liable party in the crash.

Further details will be reported at a later time once the investigation has concluded.
