Per the article, Fred Griffith was a tow truck driver helping a disabled trash truck alongside the CA-52 in Tierrasanta at about 5:00 p.m when he was tragically struck by the drunken driver.
The drunken driver was identified as Michael Gilbert Gray, 48, per the source. The article stated that he was headed eastbound on CA-52 near Mission Trails Regional Park in a Ford Explorer. The drunk driver, Gray, lost control and veered off the path and struck the RoadOne San Diego employee.
The drunk driver had fled the scene, although an off duty law enforcement officer witnessed the fatality and pulled him over a short distance away. The alleged DUI driver responsible for this hit-and-run car crash fatality was booked into San Diego Central Jail, reportedly, and was charged with drunken driving causing injury or death, as well as fleeing the scene of a crash causing injury or death and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, according to a CHP official.
