Jesus Tamayo arrested after his 12-year-old son is ejected and killed in car crash on Monday night

Driver Jesus Tamayo arrested in relation to a car accident that caused the death of his 12-year-old son on Slauson Avenue and Dice Road in Santa Fe Springs, according to a recent article from Whittier Daily News.

As reported in the article, the two-vehicle accident occurred at about 5:57 p.m. on Monday, in the 11700 block of Slauson Avenue.

Jesus Tamayo, a 45-year-old Bell Gardens resident, was driving a Ford Explorer headed westbound, with his son in the back seat, officials said.

When Tamayo attempted a left turn to Dice Road, he was broad-sided by a Ford Flex that was eastbound on Slauson Avenue.  As a result, the child was ejected from the vehicle.  Reports stated that it was unclear if the child was wearing a seat belt during the collision.  The boy’s name was withheld from the news report, pending the notification of next-of-kin.

Authorities arrived at the scene and transported the injured boy to Los Angeles USC County Medical Center, where the victim died shortly after.  Furthermore, the driver of the Ford Flex was reportedly uninjured in the crash.

Additionally, officers discovered drugs on Tamayo, and he was subsequently arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, child endangerment, and possession of a controlled substance, said the news article.

Currently, the crash investigation is ongoing and further details will be reported later.
