1 person dead after crash on Sequoia Kings Canyon Freeway
According to a recent article, the driver of a Ford Explorer died on Monday morning on Highway 180 near Fowler Avenue in Fresno after crashing head-on with a big rig truck.
As mentioned in the article, the accident occurred at about 9:00 a.m. when the driver of the black Ford heading eastbound drove into oncoming traffic and slammed into the big rig truck for unknown reasons, said the California Highway Patrol.
A Fresno County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene immediately and was able to pull the injured victim out of the SUV before the vehicle ignited in flames. The 47-year-old driver from Visalia was taken to a nearby hospital although he later died from his injuries, said the article.
Authorities mentioned that the driver of the semi-truck, Salvador Sanchez, indicated that the car came out of nowhere at a high speed.
Furthermore, as a result of the collision, there was a lot of diesel fuel spilled from the truck’s ruptured tanks. As a result, the fire department set up a hazmat cleanup on the roadway.
The identity of the victim killed in the accident has not yet been named. The investigation remains underway as authorities work to determine what exactly caused the driver to veer into oncoming traffic.
