California Highway Patrol investigating “complex” accident in San Bernardino
According to a Patch article, there was a fatal accident early Monday in which a 26-year-old resident of Yucaipa was killed on the 215 Freeway.
Per the article, the car accident happened at about 4:30 a.m. on the northbound Interstate 215 freeway in the 5th street offramp.
California Highway Patrol incident logs indicate that there were six vehicles involved by the end of the crash, and three other people sustained injuries, said the article.
CHP Officers speculate that the accident first occurred when the Yucaipa driver in a white Lexus struck yellow traffic barrels on the offramp. Reportedly, a green Mustang crashed into the Lexus shortly after and struck another vehicle. Multiple cars ended up in the collision, and allegedly, one car was eventually covered in flames.
Investigators did not mention the name of the victim killed in the report, pending the notification of next-of-kin. They believe that the victim most likely exited his vehicle after the initial crash and was fatally injured afterwards, said the article.
Currently, this news story is developing as the investigation team works to recreate the narrative of the multiple vehicle fatal accident. Further details will be reported at a later time.
