Single-vehicle rollover kills 3 and critically injured 5 others near Highway 152 and Island Road in Merced County
According to an article from the Merced Sun Star, a van carrying eight farmworkers crashed and rolled over on Highway 152 near Island Road, killing 3, and injuring the others.
Per the article, the car accident took place at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. According to officials, they were returning from work. Heading eastbound, Enrique Franco, 21, drove a Chevrolet Astro van off the roadway for unknown reasons and the vehicle consequently rolled over.
Six people were ejected from the van, reported Fox News. California Highway Patrol stated that three of the victims were women and they were all killed as a result of the crash.
Officers reported that a total of five others suffered major injuries and were transported to area hospitals as a result. They were only identified as Franco; Antonia Sandoval, 62; a 17-year-old boy; a 16-year-old girl, and one other unnamed woman.
According to the report, the driver did not appear to be speeding or driving recklessly, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the car accident.
