A woman is recovering after a deadly collision took her husband and dog
According to a recent article from the Press Enterprise, there was a deadly car accident that took place on Sand Canyon Road at Yucaipa Boulevard, leaving one woman injured and her husband dead.
The accident took place on Sunday evening at about 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of Sand Canyon Road and Yucaipa Boulevard.
According to sources, the Engles and their pet companion were traveling southbound in a 2015 Kia Optima on Sand Canyon Road while another driver, Cameron Cheek, 18, headed westbound on Yucaipa Boulevard.
Cheek, in a Toyota Tundra, approached the intersection as the signal changed to yellow, and Cheek attempted to cross the intersection before the light turned red, sources said.
Additionally, Cheek crossed and struck the Engles’ car on the driver side, mangling the front end of the couples’ vehicle.
Furthermore, the crash then forced the Kia sedan into another vehicle in the intersection, the article indicated.
As a result, the Engles’ dog was ejected from the car and was killed upon impact. Additionally, Garrett Engle was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics who responded to the crash.
Lauren Engle and Cheek survived the accident. Engle sustained major injuries and was in critical condition when she was transported to a local hospital, according to sources.
Cheek suffered moderate injuries, whereas the driver in the third vehicle involved, identified as Kenneth Mayle, also suffered moderate injuries and complained of pain. He did not require medical attention, said sources.
Currently, this crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Region I Major Accident Investigation Team, and currently, evidence suggests that alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision.
Further details will be reported at a later time once the investigation is concluded.
