DUI car crash leaves one passenger dead and one injured at El Camino Real in Palo Alto
According to CBS SF Bay Area, a car crash at El Camino Real left one passenger dead and another injured on Saturday night at El Camino Real near Lambert Avenue.
Authorities reported, around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, Vera Shpilman of Palo Alto was driving a car south on El Camino Real when it drifted out of the lanes of traffic and hit an unoccupied car parked along the curb. Shpilman’s car then struck a southbound vehicle on El Camino Real.
Reportedly, officers arrived at the scene of the crash and extricated the passengers out of one of the vehicles.
As a result, both were taken to a hospital, where one victim later died. The dead victim has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as 80-year-old Palo Alto resident Lyubov Rapoport, authorities said.
The name of the other victim was not mentioned in the article, although it was stated that she was hospitalized with moderate injuries, sources said.
Vera Shpilman, who was uninjured, has been booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and DUI.
