Truck was parked illegally in a bike lane leading up to fatal death
According to recent news from NBC San Diego, 20-year-old David Cabrales was killed after he crashed into a truck that was parked illegally in a bike lane on Eastlake Parkway between Fenton Street and Otay Lakes Road on early Tuesday morning.
Per the article, a truck was parked in the bike lane on Eastlake Parkway around 5:15 a.m. while the driver went to go up to the Jack-in-the-Box, said a Chula Vista Police officer.
Chula Vista police (CVPD) reported that David Cabrales was driving a silver Hyundai when the collision occurred. Upon further investigation, authorities were able to conclude that the truck driver has parked in the location before.
NBC 7 reported that when the truck driver was on the scene taking pictures of the crash and was asked about why the truck was parked in the bike lane, the driver did not want to comment and deferred all questions to his insurance agent.
It was determined that the tractor trailer belonged to a company called Seagate Produce Distribution Plant, and the alleged driver was described as a new employee who had worked less than a year, according to the company owner.
Currently, the company is conducting an internal investigation as well as the authorities who are currently conducting their own investigation.
This crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine what exactly caused the crash.
