2 people dead after fiery crash caused by driver of BMW
According to ABC7 News, Collin Gore, 18, and Joel Godfrey, 34, were both killed after a fatal head-on collision on Decoro Drive and McBean Parkway early Tuesday in Santa Clarita.
As mentioned in the article, the accident occurred just before 12:30 a.m. in the Santa Clarita intersection.
According to a sheriff’s official, the driver of a BMW identified later as Joel Godrey was reportedly speeding in between traffic before crossing into opposite lanes, crashing into a Honda sedan head-on.
Although witnesses helped the 34-year-old Godfrey out of his BMW before it erupted in flames, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities who arrived shortly after.
Furthermore, the driver of the Honda, identified by police as 18-year-old Collin Gore, was also killed in the wreck. It was mentioned in the article that Gore was ejected from his vehicle, but this information was later retracted by authorities.
It was noted by residents in the vicinity of the accident that speeding on the wide roadways in the area was “all too common.”
Additionally, the BMW was noted to be completely burnt and the Honda completely wrecked, said officials.
Currently, authorities believe speeding was a key contributor to the accident. It was unclear if drugs or alcohol played a part in the crash. This crash remains under investigation. Further details will be released at a later time.
