On February 19, 2016, a hit-and-run collision in Ventura kills a 14-year-old boy. According to the Ventura County Star, the boy was killed in a collision involving two vehicles early Friday morning. The boy was later identified as Jonathan Hernandez of Ventura.
A 911 caller reported a crash between a vehicle and bicyclist just after midnight Friday at the intersection of Telegraph Road and Saticoy Avenue. Officers said they found the boy, laying face down on the roadway upon arrival. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Surveillance video was fortunately recovered in the area where it showed a white tow truck hitting the bicyclist and continuing east on Telegraph Road. A short time later, a light colored SUV hits the boy lying in the roadway before also continuing east on telegraph road.
The driver of the tow-truck has also been identified as Martin Henderson, 50, as the owner and operator of Double R Towing. Henderson contacted police, which later took possession of his tow truck and believe it to be the vehicle involved in the first collision Friday.
