According to Santa Barbara’s Noozhawk after hours of searching by helicopter, Santa Barbara County Fire Department spotted a crash near Highway 154. The tip came from the victim’s son who received a message from his mother on his cell phone that she had been in an accident, and then did not hear from her. Concerned, he notified 911. Emergency dispatchers were able to trace the phone and started the search in the surrounding areas. The vehicle the victim was driving was described as a red Chevy Cavalier. Two helicopters from the County Air Support Unit and ground crews searched the area for several hours.
The woman suffered a broken arm, bruised ribs and a few other minor injuries. Emergency personnel say she was severely dehydrated because of the heat and not being able to move.
