In California, motorcycles are considered the most dangerous mode of transportation. For example, in 2016 motorcycles accounted for approximately 15% of all motor vehicle fatalities reported in our state. This is despite the fact that motorcycles make up a small minority of all registered motor vehicles. When considered by proportion, a rider is far more likely to suffer death or serious injury in a motorcycle crash than a crash involving a traditional vehicle.
