Temescal Valley, CA (January 21, 2020) – A fatal hit-and-run collision was reported on Sunday night, January 19th, in Temescal Valley. The crash took place on Temescal Canyon Road at or near the intersection with Trilogy Parkway at approximately 10:28 p.m. The crash left three teens dead and three others injured.
Police officials stated that the driver of a white Infiniti may have intentionally struck a Toyota Prius occupied by six teenagers near Glen Ivy Hot Springs. The Prius was forced off the roadway where it crashed into a tree, according to authorities. A witness called 911 while another was reported to have seen the operator of the Infiniti park the vehicle at a nearby residence.
Officials with the California Highway Patrol stated that emergency responders arrived and found three teens outside of the vehicle and another three trapped inside. The three pinned victims were extricated from the Prius and one victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The remaining five victims were transported to local hospitals where two others succumbed to their injuries.
The three surviving teens suffered moderate injuries. Police later found the driver of the Infiniti, identified as Anurag Chandra, 42, and have since arrested him for three counts of murder alongside other charges.
We would like to offer our condolences to the families of the deceased victims at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of their full recovery.
Authorities have recently established that car accident-related injuries were ultimately responsible for the fatalities of 3,563 people across California in 2018. A wide multitude of various factors such as intoxicated driving and speeding repeatedly trigger such crashes, significantly raising the chances that a motor vehicle accident in California will tragically end with utterly devastating consequences.
