San Diego, CA – Pedestrian Seriously Hurt in Genesee Avenue DUI Crash

San Diego, CA (April 4, 2020) – A 60-year-old woman was seriously hurt in a DUI pedestrian crash on Thursday in San Diego. The crash was reported just after 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Genesee and Sauk Avenues.

According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, 27-year-old Pedro Matias-Pere was traveling northbound on Genesee in a 2006 Chevy Silverado. Matias-Pere lost control of his vehicle, swerved to the left and then overcorrected to the right before rolling over and striking a traffic pole.

The traffic pole detached as a result of the crash and struck a woman standing on the sidewalk. Rescue workers responded to the scene and rushed the unidentified pedestrian to a hospital with serious injuries. Matias-Perez fled the scene but was later captured by authorities. Following a series of sobriety tests, he was arrested and charged with hit-and-run and driving while impaired.
